El objetivo general de esta investigación es analizar cuantitativamente la manera en que las nuevas tecnologías, y en especial las redes sociales, influyen en la creación de formas de comunicación diferenciada entre la población joven, y ofrecer así una perspectiva complementaria, desde una metodología distinta, de lo plasmado en Jóvenes y comunicación: la impronta de lo virtual (Megías y Rodríguez; CRS: 2014).

El acercamiento cuantitativo a través de una encuesta online a jóvenes entre los 16 y los 20 años, permite, entre otras cosas, proponer una tipología de jóvenes en base a cómo se relacionan con internet y las redes sociales, y dibujar un autorretrato, un selfie, de la forma de estar los y las jóvenes en las redes
